What is remap?

To understand what is remap, the advantages and why do the reprogramming of electronic injection, it is first necessary to know what the electronic injection is. It was created to replace an old vehicle component, the carburetor.

What is the difference between carburetor and electronic injection?

Carburetor

Its main function was to create the air/fuel mixture and its dosage in internal combustion engines. This mixture was then sent to the engine in the right measure to the conditions of the engine so that it had a good performance and adequate consumption.

Electronic injection

It quickly became mandatory in all vehicles launched in Brazil. It is the electronic injection that controls various engine functions, such as air pressure, fuel input, idle speed, ignition timing and valves. All this control is carried out by an electronic integrated circuit that considers how the engine is working and adjusts everything to achieve the best performance.

Unlike the carburetor, to control all this the electronic injection does not do it mechanically, it has sensors and actuators. To know everything about electronic injection, what is its function and how it works, click on the link and find out.

What is electronic injection reprogramming (Remap)?

Remap is nothing more than a change in the software responsible for managing the vehicle's engine. It is a vehicle tuning with the intention of allowing better performance for every need.

This service can be done in different categories of vehicles, such as cars, motorcycles, vans, trucks, agricultural machines and even watercraft. Every vehicle that has a part called the electronic injection central (ECU) can receive a reprogramming. It is through this center that you have access to information that, when changed, will lead to vehicle optimization, increasing engine power and torque.

To change it, there are basically 3 steps:

the professional accesses the central, does the reading,

then a new software is created.

Finally, this new software is recorded in your vehicle.

In case the vehicle has to go back to the original software, Strike has a backup of all the original software of the cars that have already been reprogrammed by electronic injection.

Why remap?

The original programming is done in the car factories and this programming is limited so that the vehicle runs in certain situations that are simulated during manufacturing.

Such programming does not always correspond to the potential of the engine, hence the need to reprogram the electronic injection, free up the horses and improve the efficiency of the vehicles.

There is power reserve in the vast majority of vehicles, but it is worth noting that there are rules and taxes for each country, so some identical models are sold in a country with one power and in others with another power.

Why doesn't a car come with Remap from the factory?

One of the questions we get the most is why a car doesn't come with a factory remap. They keep thinking that this should come with the factory configuration already. So we wrote a full text telling the story and the truth about factory programming and engines.

But in short, there are two main reasons, scope for future increases, and uses on different platforms.

Advantages of remap

To clarify what are the main advantages that electronic injection reprogramming can provide, vehicles will be divided into 5 different groups:

Light vehicles/vans

trucks

Agricultural machinery

motorcycles

nautical

It is interesting to classify in this way not only by the size and original characteristics of each vehicle, but it is also important for the different results that each category supports.

The activity continues to be electronic injection reprogramming, but for each category and vehicle the objectives change and the service needs to be analyzed carefully before the Remap is carried out.

Light vehicles

This is the group that promoted the reprogramming of electronic injection in the world, since the 90's. Here in Brazil, the first reprogrammed plants had the objective of fuel conversion. The demand for converting a car with an original gasoline engine to alcohol increased significantly even more after the drop in the value of ethanol, which came to cost about R$ 1.00 (one real) per liter.

With the arrival of Flex engines and the increase in the value of ethanol at gas stations, the reprogramming of electronic injection changed its focus, the objective now was to get more power, torque, improve fuel economy and drivability.

In a reprogrammed vehicle, the response will be better, that is, it is not necessary to step on so much for the vehicle to develop well, whether on a climb or when resuming an overtake.

Other gains that stand out are an improvement of about 10% in power and torque in naturally aspirated cars. If the vehicle comes from the factory with a turbo engine, this average can be around 30% power dyno-proven torque and torque. These gains are variable, not everyone will have the same percentage of gain, as each car has its specificity, but two advantages for all drivers are more power and safety.

Truck

With the popularization of electronic injection reprogramming, other categories began to seek these improvements and gains. So then, heavy diesel vehicles began to gain space and be part of this scenario.

In addition to the engine power improvement, the torque gains, truck drivers noticed advantages in other points, for example, a better response and engine development. This, for those who live on the road, is a great gain as it provides shorter trips, less gear shifting, fuel economy and this at the end of a trip can mean even less wear on the driver's physical health.

Agricultural machinery

With the advancement of technology also inserted in agricultural machinery, this category can also do the reprogramming of electronic injection and the gains for the rural producer are excellent.

Stronger engines working in less time and enabling greater performance in your production area are some of the gains in agricultural machinery.

An agricultural engine with more torque and more capacity, working in an area with lower rotation, also brings consumption gains, which significantly increases the engine's useful life. The producer will take longer to need to do maintenance or change machines, which are not cheap, that is, in the end, it is more profit for the rural producer.

motorcycles

For motorcyclists who love riding on two wheels, it is also possible to take advantage of electronic injection reprogramming. Motorcycles gain even more acceleration power in all rev ranges, it is the conviction of having a perfect balance between performance gain and more pleasure when riding at high or low revs.

If you are wondering if remapping a motorcycle is the same thing as installing a power chip we have this content “Power chip for motorcycles, does it work?”, which was written especially to answer this question.

nautical line

Group still unknown by many customers, but with the potential to achieve great gains. The line of water vehicles can also undergo a reprogramming of electronic injection and improve responsiveness, torque and power, which will ensure even more sporty and fun rides.
